Obiettivi formativi
A. Fornire le conoscenze che permettano di apprendere:
- le ragioni dell'unificazione europea,
- i metodi che hanno presieduto al processo di integrazione,
- le linee generali della storia dell'unificazione europea dalla fine della seconda guerra mondiale a oggi.
B. Sviluppare le capacità di:
- comprendere il significato storico dell'unificazione europea, cioè il conseguimento della pace, il rafforzamento della democrazia, lo sviluppo economico nel continente,
- capire i meccanismi sovrannazionali e intergovernativi che hanno caratterizzato la storia dell'integrazione,
- orientarsi nella complessità delle relazioni tra gli Stati membri e tra l'Unione Europea e il resto del mondo.
A. To reach a good knowledge of:
- basic reasons for the uniting of Europe,
- different approaches to the unification of Europe,
- the history of European unification from the end of World War II.
B. To develop abilities:
- to understand the historical significance of European integration (peace, democracy, economic development),
- to understand the supranational and intergovernmental mechanisms which govern the process of unification,
- to comprehend the complexity of Member States relationships and of the role of the European Union in international relations.

Al termine dell'insegnamento, si dovrà dimostrare di:
- possedere una buona conoscenza degli argomenti trattati durante il corso,
- essere in grado di utilizzare consapevolmente gli strumenti acquisiti,
- saper valutare criticamente lo sviluppo e le contraddizioni che hanno caratterizzato la storia dell'integrazione europea.
By the end of the course, students will be able to demonstrate:
- a good knowledge of the topics covered during the classes,
- to employ appropriate instruments to understand the process of European integration,
- to critically assess the development and the contradictions of European integration

Il corso è composto da sei moduli, ciasciuno dei quali affronta un periodo storico diverso.

5. La strada per Lisbona (2004-2009)

Il primo modulo inizia nel 1946, con la prima fase di integrazione avviata dopo la seconda guerra mondiale.
Il secondo modulo analizzerà gli anni '50 e '60, per descrivere uno degli eventi fondativi più importanti della storia europea: la firma dei Trattati di Roma.
Durante i due decenni successivi, gli anni '70 e '80, il processo di integrazione conobbe successi e fallimenti, che portarono alla nascita dell'Unione Europea nel 1992, che fu un vero punto di svolta nel percorso di integrazione. Questi eventi saranno descritti nel terzo modulo.
Il quarto e il quinto ripercorreranno gli ultimi 30 anni che hanno portato alladesione di nuovi membri all'Unione – che oggi conta 27 Stati membri – e diverse riforme istituzionali, culminate nel 2007 con il Trattato di Lisbona.
Infine, il sesto modulo farà il punto sullo “Stato dell'unione” attuale facendo il punto sui traguardi raggiunti e delineando le sfide future.

The first module begins in 1946, with the early phase of integration started after the II World War.
The second one will move to the 50’s and the 60’s, to describe one of the most important founding events in the European history: the signing of the Treaties of Rome.
During the next two decades, the 70’s, and the 80’s, the integration process knew both successes and failures, which led to the establishment of the European Union in 1992, that was a true turning point in the integration path. These events will be described in the third module.
The The fourth and fifth ones will depict the last 30 years which have brought new members into the Union – that has now 27 Members States – and several institutional reforms, culminated in 2007 with the Lisbon Treaty.
Lastly, the sixth module will give the current “state of the union” tacking stock of the past achievements and outlining the future challenges.

Modalità di verifica dell'apprendimento
Per verificare le conoscenze acquisite, ogni modulo si conclude con un breve test.
Per concludere con successo il corso è necessario superare una PROVA SCRITTA FINALE, composta da 30 domande, conseguendo almeno 18/30. La prova finale è sulla piattaforma Start@unito (https://start.unito.it/course/view.php?id=71)
Gli studenti che superararanno la prova scritta dovranno poi sostenere una PROVA ORALE, conseguendo, anche in questo caso, la votazione di almeno 18/30.
To verify the acquired knowledge, each module ends with a short test.
In order to conclude the course successfully, a WRITTEN FINAL TEST test composed by 30 questions has to be passed with a minimum of 18/30. The final test is on the platform start@unito (https://start.unito.it/course/view.php?id=71)
Students who pass the written test have to take an ORAL EXAM with a minimun of 18/30.
