The main and general objective of the international law course is to offer to the students the basis for a critical understanding of the structure and dynamics of the international legal order constituted by the whole set of rules that regulates the relationships between international law subjects. Within this broad objective, the course aims at providing students with the necessary instruments for analyzing the role of international law in the Italian domestic legal order.

At the end of the course students will have at their disposal the necessary instruments for understanding the legal relationships regulated by international law both in the classical inter-state relationship and in their internal legal orders. Moreover, students will get the necessary tools for critical assess and analyze the aforementioned legal relationships, also in the light of present day news.

The subjects of the International legal order; customary and treaty sources as well as lawmaking processes of the International organizations; the relationship between International and national law. Framework of the main limitations to national sovereignty. The consequences of international law breaches; the International judicial function. Particular attention will be devoted to the new theories regarding the use of force.

The final exam will consist in a written essay composed of three questions. The mark shall be expressed into thirtieths and shall represent the student's knowledge on the basic issues and his ability to tackle a practical case.
