- No prerequisites from previous schooling are required, as there are introductory lectures on some basic concepts and theoretical perspectives of anthropology. However, the course will be easier to follow if students already have a basic knowledge of anthropology.

Obiettivi formativi
Consistent with the international profile of the course of study, students will acquire a critical sense by reflecting on the contribution of anthropology in understanding the power relations present in many societies. The concepts that can make the logic of domination and power recognisable in contemporary life contexts will be analysed, paying attention to the relationship between power and culture, hegemony and subalternity and deconstructing potentially misleading and dangerous stereotypes and preconceptions.

Students will develop critical skills and analytical insight useful for discussing the rhetorics of ethnic conflict, the cultural construction of identity, the conditions of structural violence and intervention policies in post-conflict contexts.

Students will be involved in an in-depth study of crisis areas, with a focus on the forms of violence that characterize them and on possible anthropological readings of these scenarios.

The course will consist of 21 hours of frontal teaching, integrated with discussions, photographic and video-ethnographic materials, which involve strong involvement of students and their interaction with the teacher.

Students' preparation will be assessed by means of an individual oral interview on the topics in the syllabus aimed at ascertaining knowledge of the texts indicated during the course. For the assessment - expressed in thirtieths - criteria will be used such as clarity of presentation and the appropriate use of a basic anthropological vocabulary; richness of content; critical competence; ability to analyse ethnographic cases.
