Obiettivi
La Summer School Engaging Conflict, organizzata da T.wai – Torino World Affairs Institute in collaborazione con il Dipartimento Culture, Politiche e Società dell’Università degli studi di Torino, è un programma internazionale di formazione avanzata rivolto a studenti, giovani ricercatori e professionisti di tutto il mondo interessati ad approfondire la conoscenza delle realtà conflittuali, dei processi di peacebuilding e dei temi a essi associati.
Engaging Conflict si pone l’obiettivo di fornire ai suoi partecipanti chiavi di lettura capaci di cogliere la complessità dei conflitti contemporanei e strumenti di analisi idonei a comprendere, interpretare e valutare le diverse scelte politiche in loro risposta, dal non intervento alla prevenzione del conflitto passando per le attività di peacebuilding.
Alla cattedra si alternano, sin dal 2012, autorevoli studiosi che insegnano in importanti università europee o svolgono la propria attività in prestigiosi istituti di ricerca. L’edizione 2021 vede la partecipazione di Mats Berdal (King’s College London), David Brenner (Goldsmiths, University of London), Christopher Coker (London School of Economics), Élise Féron (Tampere University), Roger Mac Ginty (Durham University) e Kieran Mitton (King’s College London). Il programma sarà ulteriormente arricchito da interventi di practitioners provenienti dal Centro Studi Post-Conflict Operations dell’Esercito Italiano, lo Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) e il sistema delle Nazioni Unite.
Programma di studi
La didattica si svolge in inglese ed è articolata in seminari e laboratori distinti per moduli tematici, mentre alcuni pomeriggi sono arricchiti da incontri informali con esperti.
Caratterizzato da uno stile dinamico e interattivo, il programma di Engaging Conflict si articola in moduli tematici e combina lezioni frontali e seminari, momenti di riflessione condivisa, roleplay e simulazioni che offrono ai partecipanti la possibilità di interagire con studiosi e professionisti di chiara fama in un ambiente stimolante e informale.

Certificazione e prova finale
Per ottenere la certificazione di fine corso occorre aver maturato la frequenza di almeno l’85% delle lezioni e dei seminari, cui si aggiunge una prova finale. La prova consiste nell'approfondimento e nella presentazione in aula di un caso studio.
In linea con questi criteri, il comitato organizzatore di Engaging Conflict prende in considerazione le richieste relative ad altre università e si fa carico di produrre la documentazione necessaria al riconoscimento dell’avvenuta partecipazione degli studenti.

Due to the global pandemic emergency, the 2021 edition of the Engaging Conflict Summer School will be held in online format.
T.wai – Torino World Affairs Institute launches, in cooperation with the University of Turin, the 10th edition of its Summer School aimed to critically understand conflict and to tackle it as a dynamic reality.
Engaging Conflict is designed to equip committed students, early-career researchers and professionals with advanced tools to critically understand conflict and tackle it as a dynamic reality. Engaging Conflict’s faculty draws from a unique spectrum of expertise to train a select group of participants in assessing the complexity of conflict and post-conflict scenarios, and evaluating the relevance and impact of different policy choices or normative standings, from non-intervention to conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
Programme
Training runs every year in the first two weeks of July, form Monday to Friday (9.00 am to 4.30 pm). It features lectures, extensive Q&A sessions, role-plays and informal chats with some of the world's best academics and experts sharing cutting-edge insights on their specific fields of expertise.
The Engaging Conflict Summer School is a comprehensive learning experience that combines inputs and lectures by renown scholars, subject matter experts and practitioners with participatory activities in an informal, yet challenging, environment.
In 2021 the Summer School will welcome the following faculty members: Mats Berdal (King’s College London), David Brenner (Goldsmiths, University of London), Christopher Coker (London School of Economics), Elise Féron (Tampere University), Roger Mac Ginty (Durham University) and Kieran Mitton (King’s College London). The Summer School will also see the participation of practitioners from the Italian Army, the SIPRI and the UN.
Participants to the program are selected through an intensive and highly competitive process, strictly based on academic merit, professional achievements and individual potential. The working language of the School is English.
The 2021 edition of the Engaging Conflict Summer School will be held in an online format.
Applications are accepted until Friday 14 May 2021, and scholarships are available. Complete and updated information on Engaging Conflict is available at: www.engagingconflict.it
Final certification
Participants who successfully complete the Summer School (i.e. attend a minimum of 85% of lectures/seminars and achieve at least a “pass” grade in the final assignment) are awarded an official certification jointly released by T.wai and the Department of Cultures, Politics and Society (CPS) of the University of Torino. Such certificate will include a full transcript of records and can be used to claim university credits.
The Engaging Conflict staff will consider specific requirements of other universities and provide the required documentation to allow students to obtain recognition for their participation.
