Obiettivi formativi
In line with the teaching aims of Laurea Magistrale in Scienze Stategiche and Laurea Magistrale in Scienze Strategiche e Militari, the aim of the course is to make the students familiar with the main schools of thought in the field of International Relations, and to provide them with the basic conceptual, theoretical and methodological tools of the discipline, in order to properly understand and critically analyze the complex and changing reality of contemporary international politics, with particular focus on the post-bipolar and post-9/11 geopolitical scenarios.

At the end of the course students will be able to be familiar with the main concepts used by International Relations scholars and experts, and with the main approaches to the study of International Relations, as well as with the theoretical and methodological issues which characterize the discipline. It is also expected that the students have acquired: a) the tools necessary for a proper understanding and a critical analysis of the most important international phenomena; b) the ability to apply the acquired conceptual tools to explain the main issues in world politics with the level of autonomy required to put forward and support a strong argument (applying knowledge and understanding) and strengthen transferable skills (i.e. active reading, critical thinking, oral and written communication) which are necessary to apply the learned knowledge in different contexts and for different purposes.

Programma
The course program is divided into two parts.
In the first part, after a brief presentation of the discipline, its historical evolution and its theoretical and methodological debates, the course will review the main schools of thought in the field of International Relations: realism (which will be given special attention), liberalism, critical theory and constructivism.
In the second part, the course will analyze the main characteristics and the most discussed issues of contemporary international politics, paying particular attention to the post-bipolar and post-9/11 geopolitical scenarios.

The entire course will be delivered in person (on the days and at the times established by the calendar) through lectures.

The final examination will consist of a written test (including multiple choice questions and/or open ended questions) on the whole course program.
For both military and civilian students oral exam will be possible. Teacher will explain it during the first lesson.
