Obiettivi formativi
The CSDP Common Module aims to:
a. Provide participants with a common broad understanding of CSDP. In particular,
participants will be exposed to the European integration historical foundations, to its
core values, current institutional framework and policies, as well as actors and
processes.
b. Enhance the young officer's ability to work together with his consorts from other
Member States.
c. Provide European initial military educational establishments a recognized curricula
to allow young offircers to follow the same module in another Member State.- Oggetto:

1. Starting situation: participants are cadets/students/young military officers with some
previous basic knowledge about the European Union, its history and its structure.
2. Cognitive Objectives: at the end of the course the participant will be able to:
- Openly act actively contribute when in the EU international environment;
- Demonstrate understanding of the contributions made by EU institutions involved in
CSDP;
- Explain the strategic objectives and the impact on the European Union of the
European Security Strategy.
- Summarize the decision making process that leads to operations/missions.
- List recent ESDP missions and operations.
- Debate the importance of EU relations with its major partners (UN, NATO, AU,
Russia, …).
4. Affective objectives: at the end of the course the participants should be ready to:
- Demonstrate understanding of contributions made by EU Institutions involved in
CSDP.
- Justify the core values of the European Union.

- EU Decision Making in Crises Management;
- EC programs and activities in support of EU crisis management;
- Civil-Military co-ordination in CSDP missions and operations;
- CSDP missions and operations (characteristic, challenges and effects);
- Coherence of EU action in crisis management (instruments and partners);
- Working with Partners and International Organizations;

Attività di supporto
Methodology.
Topics are examined through formal lectures (25 hours) and plenary discussions. Each
participant will be encouraged to take an active role and has the opportunity to ask
questions. Workshops and group discussion will be favoured to deepen the understanding of certain areas.
Private studies.Internet-based Distance learning (IDL). IDL AKU1 "History and Context of CSDP
Development" and AKU2 "European Security Strategy" are mandatory. Optional study task
is AKU3 "Role of EU Institutions in CSDP".There will be additional didactic activities - exercise cycles - carried out by Lt. Col. Dario MAFFEO

On-line CSDP presentation materials of EU Institutions is recommended for consultation
prior to the residential course. Updated UE publication will be available during residential
module, including the European Security Strategy (ESS) "A secure Europe in a Better
World".
